The Private Security Authority is a Government body which holds responsibility for the licensing and regulation of the private security industry in Ireland. Since 1st September 2018, only approved providers are able to deliver training courses for licensing purposes. The PSA will only accept evidence of having undertaken training from approved providers. No other providers will have their training details accepted and licences will not be issued.
Mackin, as the only approved training centre outside of the Education Training Board (ETB) offer a number of security training courses including Guarding Skills and Door Security.
Basic Guarding Skills QQI Level 4
This course is suitable for those who wish to work in the area of static retail and, is also a necessary requirement for cash in transit employees. It provides the participants with the necessary skills required to work as a security guard in shops, factories and building sites. QQI requirements mean that the course will involve 100 hours of input by the trainee. With both self-directed learning and classroom based instructor-led portion of the course.
The course consists of assignments, skills demonstrations and a theory examination, and takes place over five days spread over three week period. On successful completion of the course, the participant will be able to apply to the Private Security Authority for a license.

Door Security Procedures Training Course QQI Level 4
This course is suitable for those who wish to work in the area of licensed premises i.e. pubs and clubs. This course will provide the trainee with the minimum training requirements necessary to apply for a PSA Door Security License and follows the same timescale as the Basic Guarding Skills course.
